RI Generations, Inc. is a non-profit organization, made up of individuals and representatives of organizations from all over RI, including those listed on the bottom of each web-page (Currently, only members with a web-link).  Conceptionalized following the St. Louis Accord meeting in 2005, which brought together "culture change" representatives and interested parties from all across the country to discuss issues and activities centered around individualized care in nursing homes and fostering any culture change initiatives, the RI Culture Change Coalition was formed and started meeting in February 2006.  In early 2007, the members determined to rename the coalition to RI Generations.  In February 2008, RI Generations was incorporated as a RI non-profit.

RI Generations works to focus on one of the most important aspects of the reality of needing nursing home care; and that is that the care and services provided must be person-centered.  Our focus is on individualized care and being resident-centered in providing care and services to individuals residing in nursing homes.

The truth is a significant percentage of us, or someone we love will need the care, services, and supports traditionally found in the nursing home environment.  Any negative perceptions we may have or have heard of or read about, or any previous negative involvement with nursing homes we may have experienced does not change that reality.

RI Generations' mission is to promote a person-centered care environment, rather than an institutionalized model of care for elders and the chronically ill residing in Rhode Island Nursing homes.

RI Generations plans on offering educational events that will highlight for nursing home Administrator's and thier staff,  residents and family members of individuals residing in nursing homes, and the general public the importance of  encouraging and supporting individualized care as a priority in Rhode Island.
